What are Reach Assessments™?

The Reach series is a comprehensive set of assessments for primary and secondary students. Reach Assessments provide knowledge to educators and are a powerful diagnostic tool for future planning. The assessments are based on curricula for the relevant year. Items range from recall and routine application, through to more demanding questions. This series is only available online. Central to this series is an online reporting system, which uses a progression scale for each subject.

Students will read a variety of texts which narrate, describe, explain, argue, persuade and review. Focusing on the aspects of:

  • Writer’s craft
  • Syntax
  • Vocabulary
 Mathematical skills in a range of contexts from the following areas:
  • Algebra & patterns
  • Change & data
  • Measures & units
  • Numbers & arithmetic
  • Space & geometry
 Scientific skills in the subject contexts of Earth and Beyond, Energy and Change, Life and Living, Natural and Processed Materials, and including:
  • Knowledge
  • Interpreting data
  • Investigating
  • Measuring & observing
  • Predicting, concluding from data
  • Reasoning, problem solving hyphenated
 Skills drawn from a range of curriculum areas and focusing on a variety of computing contexts, including:
  • Common digital systems including hardware & software
  • Graphics & multimedia
  • Internet & email
  • Programming & scripting
  • Spreadsheets & databases
  • Word processing
 Two forms of writing, narrative and persuasive, will be assessed over time. Criteria include:
  • Genre
  • Textual Grammar
  • Syntax/Punctuation
  • Spelling
