Sixty-one (61) top-performing Malaysian students in Mathematics, Science, English, Writing, and Digital Technologies received 70 gold medals during the annual awards ceremony for ICAS 2022 at the Azman Hashim Auditorium, Bangunan AICB, with 2 triple gold medal winners and 5 double-medal winners.
Hosted by Educational Assessments and Testing Services Malaysia and their partner Janison Australia, an education technology pioneer with extensive expertise in innovate online assessment and learning solutions, the awards ceremony was a testament to the importance of hard work, dedication, and excellence in education by teachers and students, doing the nation proud in this international assessment. The ICAS assessment, recognised in the Ministry of Education’s Education Blueprint, is run as an annual competition across many countries in Asia and the Pacific region, attracting millions of students to show their capabilities in core subjects. Despite the challenges faced in conducting the ICAS assessment fully online since 2021, Malaysian schools have implemented it successfully.
The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the representative of the Australian High Commission, Srii Gunaseelan (Austrade), President of the National Association of Private Educational Institutions (NAPEI) Associate Professor Elajsolan Mohan, Janison Australia’s Chief Academic Officer Sara Ratner, representatives from the public and private education sectors, as well as parents and teachers of the award-winning students.
The students who received gold medals were rightly celebrated in a short but meaningful ceremony, testament to the benefits of high-quality international assessments in these subjects. Their exceptional performance was a direct result of the hard work, dedication, and attention to detail by both teachers and students, as well as support and encouragement by parents.
Janison Australia’s Chief Academic Officer, Ms Sara Ratner, presented the medals and said, “At Janison, we have made it our mission to provide the very best tools in assessment for learning to the global community. Our work with OECD PISA for Schools and modern educational technology will help channel more than 40 years of expertise to help learners achieve educational success for their future. And, starting this year, ICAS 2023 will feature endorsement from a top-ranked global university, the University of Sydney, which is testament to the quality of the competition and assessment delivered.”
